Avoid a Moving Disaster

January 28, 2015/in Blog /by Aaron

It’s time for a new office!  This is an exciting time for a company and all its employees – at least it should be.  But when it comes to moving, don’t get caught up in a “moving disaster.”  By this, we mean do your homework before making any big moves.

When you decide to make your move, you must strategize a game plan for the actual moving process.  Now, this process can be tricky if it’s not executed properly.  Also, you want to make sure you’ve reviewed all costs to ensure there are no hidden fees or extra costs for particular moving services.

Once you have a game plan in tact, you’ll then want to evaluate your entire paper situation – how much paper do you actually have?  Most companies don’t realize just how much paper they’re storing in file cabinets, boxes, and storage or even just spread throughout the office.  Believe it or not, with heaping loads of paper come very heavy weights, thus meaning these documents could easily exceed the maximum weight for some office floors (if not on first floor).  Trust us, we’ve heard of these situations occurring and the cost of having to reinforce the floor with steal beams to support the weight is much more expensive than scanning all your documents prior to the move.

Also when moving, you’ll want to make sure you measure every inch of your office space to ensure that everything is actually going to fit in that desired space.  Very often these days, office relocations involve some degree of downsizing in available square footage.  There’s nothing worse than moving everything into your new office and realizing that it’s going to be a very tight squeeze.  This defeats the entire purpose of moving in the first place.  Moral of the story…paper takes up A LOT of space in any office, so make sure you can make the room – or just go digital.  That’s always a great idea too!

If you have additional questions or need more moving tips, please contact Mark Sandheinrich or Aaron Liess today at 800-264-2808 or 314-872-3322, or email us at sales@microtekstl.com.  We’d be happy to help and even provide you with a free and no obligation estimate for scanning your documents!
